United States Studies Centre PhD Scholarship

Take your research to the next level with the United States Studies Centre PhD Scholarship, valued at $41,753 p.a. — designed to support individuals exploring American Studies, American foreign policy, economic security, or American politics and culture.

This scholarship doesn’t just provide funding — it opens doors:

🏠 Generous stipend — Equivalent to the University of Sydney’s Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate (indexed on 1st January each year) for up to 14 research periods for PhD candidates subject to meeting academic progression requirements.

🌏 Global experience — a one-off payment of up to $10,000 to support participation in a research boot camp or training program at an American university.

✈️ Travel support — $5,000 per year (up to $15,000 total) to fuel fieldwork, conferences and international collaborations.

USSC Undergraduate Equity Scholarship in American Studies

This scholarship was established to provide financial support to students majoring in American Studies at the University of Sydney who are experiencing financial hardship. The scholarship is valued at $2,500.

Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship based on one or more of the below:

  1. identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as defined in the University of Sydney’s Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
  2. fixed income or low socio-economic status,
  3. carer responsibilities,
  4. long-term medical condition/disability (including ongoing effects of abuse),
  5. sole-parent responsibilities,
  6. regional or remote disadvantage,
  7. refugee status,
  8. identify as LGBTIQ+, and/or
  9. are a first-generation university student.

USSC Undergraduate Indigenous Scholarship

This scholarship was established to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking AMST and USSC units of study at the University of Sydney. The scholarship is valued at $2,500.

Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as defined in the University of Sydney’s Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.

American Studies Honours Scholarship

This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students studying the American Studies honours program at the University of Sydney.

Applicants must be willing to undertake a project or activity related to the advancement of their honours research.

The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled in full-time study in one of the following degrees within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in American Studies, or
  • Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Honours) in American Studies
