USSC Associate Professor Dr David Smith talks to ABC Drive about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the US domestic response.

Dr Smith begins by discussing Israel's military operation in Rafah — a move the Biden administration has consistently "warned against." Despite exercising diplomatic objections, the United States has refrained from "seriously considering cutting off arms" to Israel.

"That supply of military aid is not drying up anytime soon," Dr Smith continues. "As long as that keeps going, Netanyahu is not likely to listen to Biden about whether they should assault Rafah."

Dr Smith also addresses the portrayal of the war in US media, noting that news outlets are captivated by the student encampments occurring at colleges nationwide: "The actual conflict of Gaza has been displaced from the front pages of American media [with] protests about Gaza on American campuses."
