The United States Studies Centre presented an exclusive advanced screening of BlacKkKlansman. The film is based on the true story of Ron Stallworth – the first African-American detective on the Colorado Springs Police department. Determined to make a name for himself, Stallworth sets out on a dangerous mission to infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan. The young detective soon recruits a more seasoned colleague, Flip Zimmerman, into the undercover investigation of a lifetime. Together, they team up to take down the extremist hate group as the organisation aims to sanitize its violent rhetoric to appeal to the mainstream.
BlacKkKlasman premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim and received the prestigious Grand Prix Prize at the festival’s conclusion. The film also enjoyed sold-out sessions at the recent Sydney Film Festival.
This event was co-presented with Universal Pictures International Australasia.
