Will the US-Korea agreement temper Seoul's nuclear ambition?

South Korea and the US have unveiled an agreement to integrate Seoul into US strategic planning around deterrence and any response to attack from the North.

The Washington Declaration also includes provisions for positioning US strategic assets, including nuclear-armed submarines on the peninsula.

Will the agreement temper a popular desire in the South Korea to develop a sovereign nuclear capability? Dr Peter K. Lee, Research Fellow at the United States Studies Centre, spoke on the ABC's RN program about these matters.
