USSC Associate Professor Dr David Smith talked to ABC Radio's RN Drive program about Donald Trump's appearance at the first day of the Republican National Convention and the religious energy at the convention.

"A lot of Trump's supporters are evangelical Christians ... and many of them see Trump as blessed by God," said Dr Smith.

"They believe that he isn't just an ordinary president."
