USSC Foreign Policy and Defence Director Professor Peter Dean says he does not regard the recent talks in Beijing between diplomats from China and the United States as a significant breakthrough.

“Until we see more substantial outcomes from more meetings,” he told Sky News Australia. “We’ve got to remain optimistic, it’s great that they are speaking.”
