USSC Non-Resident Senior Fellow Bruce Wolpe is quoted in an article discussing the implications of the recent Colorado Supreme Court decision that found Trump ineligible to hold office again — the first time a US court has stopped a presidential candidate appearing on a ballot due to charges of insurrection.
Wolpe says that if Trump is unable to compete in Colorado alone, it would "not change the outcome of the election" given the state's history of voting Democratic in the past four presidential elections.
However, Wolpe believes the decision may even embolden Trump's supporters, as Trump can characterise the decision as "another example of the weaponisation of the political process and the courts and the Justice Department" to interfere with his bid for the presidency.
