USSC Director of Foreign Policy and Defence Professor Peter Dean talked to Sky News about the plans announced at the AUSMIN talks for the United States to rotate more bombers, fighter jets and surveillance aircraft to Australia.
“This is a matter of geography. The US is wanting to have a greater presence in the Indo-Pacific ... because of the growing behaviour that we’re seeing from the People’s Republic of China, from North Korea, from Russia in the Indo-Pacific as they use coercion and force and intimidation to try and achieve their strategic goals," said Professor Dean.
"So this is about a … broader regional deterrence effort that Australia’s a part of with the US, with Japan, with South Korea, with the Philippines and other countries in our region.”
