USSC Research Associate Victoria Cooper spoke to AusBiz TV about the major US news events of the week including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Taiwan, the passing of the CHIPS and Science Act in Congress and the significance of the constitutional referendum on abortion in Kansas.
"Pelosi's trip was highly anticipated and a very symbolic move that was met with strong resistance from China. The Chinese foreign minister said the US was "playing with fire" with Pelosi saying 'we cannot standby and leave Taiwan alone when it comes to Beijing and we need to support our democratic allies'," Ms Cooper said. "The question is whether the risks of the visit outweigh the rewards."
