USSC's Director of Engagement and Impact Mari Koeck spoke to Canberra's 2CC Radio about the significance of July 4 celebrations in the United States.
"I get very passionate about the fourth of July and the Declaration of Independence in particular, because it has such meaning. When you talk about people being 'endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,' that doesn't change over time," she said.
"It is a celebration, but there's a sense of pride and joy that comes with: 'This is our identity, this is who we are.' Freedom is such a fundamental part of the American experience."
