USSC Non-Resident Fellow Victoria Cooper talked to the BBC about the consolidation of the Republican Party around Donald Trump after he was shot and how he could moderate his message now to broaden his support base.

"He's promised to have a more moderate tone," said Cooper of Trump's anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention.

"This is an opportunity for him to really pivot and tap some of the votes from more moderate Republicans, from independent voters, from people in swing states."
