In the past two years we've grown used to hearing health officials make important announcements. But in 1964, when the US Surgeon General announced to a country and a world full of smokers that cigarettes are linked to lung cancer, it was ground breaking moment. Historian Pamela Maddock, lecturer in American Studies at the US Studies Centre, spoke to Mark Sutton on ABC's Nightlife program about that moment in 1964.
