This year has seen the culmination of major milestones in the US-Australia Alliance: 70 years since the signing of the ANZUS Treaty, 20 years since 9/11 and the first time the Treaty was invoked. In all of these, the common thread is the significance of our shared values and how times of adversity draw us together. The United States Studies Centre brought together seminal voices from leaders of state, leaders of industry and leaders of culture, to reflect on the US-Australia Alliance for a commemorative book, The Alliance at 70.
The lavishly-produced book was launched at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney with an event featuring book contributors The Hon Brendan Nelson and Major General Duncan Lewis, and Chair of the US-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group Mrs Melissa McIntosh MP. The night also featured remarks from other dignitaries and book contributors His Excellency the Honourable Arthur Sinodinos AO, His Excellency the Honourable Kim Beazley AC and Dennis Richardson AC. Emmy award-winning journalist Sara James hosted the event.
