Dr Kathryn Schumaker, Senior Lecturer in American Studies at the United States Studies Centre spoke to ABC's 7.30 program on the favourable legal landscape Trump finds himself in as he returns to the White House.
"There's a sense that the Trump administration will have much more leeway with the Supreme Court.
"So the judicial landscape has changed and has become much more friendly to Trump's policies because of course he appointed, he chose, these judges and these justices," Dr Schumaker said.
