USSC Non-Resident Senior Fellow Bruce Wolpe talked to 3AW Mornings about Kamala Harris' chances as the future Democratic nominee.

"She does not have a commanding position of popularity in the United States," said Wolpe.

"She is slightly more popular than Joe Biden and Biden was stuck at 36 per cent approval as recently as last week - which is not good."

He added: "She has been very strong on the abortion issue, on gun ... control, and on voting rights ... in other words, she's underestimated, and I think that's a great position for a political leader to be in."

He continued: "She's a prosecutor ... and she knows how to prosecute criminals. And guess what, Trump is a convicted felon.

"That is an underappreciated asset that she has and we'll have to see whether she can really use it."
