The United States Studies Centre offers a range of merit-based coursework scholarships to outstanding local and international students. 

AUSTRALIA / AMERICA CONNECTION SCHOLARSHIP

The United States Studies Centre is proud to announce the reinvigoration of its domestic scholarship program. The United States Studies Centre’s Master of US Studies program has had a strong history of producing leaders in the fields of Business, Politics and Culture in both Australia and the United States.

This scholarship will be provided to students who not only display academic merit, but also the traits that the USSC looks to promote in their ‘Ambassadors’:

  • Internationally minded
  • An understanding of the intersection of our three main areas of inquiry: politics, business and culture
  • A strong display of initiative and independent learning

In addition to the bursary, successful applicants will be honoured at an annual award ceremony hosted by our Chief Executive Officer and Academic Director.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Successful applicants will receive the following:
• (Full-time) $2000 bursary per semester for the duration of their degree (4 semesters)
• (Part-time) $1000 bursary per semester for the duration of their degree (8 semesters)
• Award ceremony held in honour of scholarship recipients. Students will be able to meet attending foreign dignitaries, and are expected to prepare a short 5-minute speech on a relevant topic
• Networking sessions with industry leaders in the recipients intended field of expertise
• Assignment of a staff ‘mentor’ for relations in chosen field
• VIP attendance to all yearly USSC events

The Australia America Transit Scholarship will be paid to full-time recipients on the following dates:

• Semester 1 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 30 credit points in USSC coded units for year duration.)
• Semester 2 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 30 credit points in USSC coded units for Semester 2 and Semester 1 of the next year.) (Mid-year entry students only.)

The Australia America Transit Scholarship will be paid to part-time recipients on the following dates:

• End of Academic Year (upon proof of enrolment in 30 credit points in USSC coded units for year duration.)
• End of Semester 2 Academic Date (upon proof of enrolment in 30 credit points in USSC coded units for Semester 2 and Semester 1 of the previous year.) (Mid-year entry students only.)

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:

• Have submitted a current application for the Master of U.S. Studies at the University of Sydney for 2017 intake (Semester 1 or 2)
• Have applied as a domestic student
• Students must complete the full 96 credit point degree, with a minimum of 60 credit points in USSC coded units.
• Have submitted the relevant information for eligibility: Academic transcript, Resume, Statement of Intent and an (optional) 300 – 450 word response to the assigned questions.

Students will be considered for the scholarship upon making an application for the Master of U.S. Studies or Graduate Diploma in US Studies.

  • Academic transcript for previous study.
  • Resume.
  • Statement of intent (200 words).
  • A 300-450 word response to the following questions:
  1. What do you consider the most important aspects of leadership? Describe a time in your life that you feel you have displayed these leadership qualities.
  2. What do you see as the most important international relations/global business issue facing the United States and/or Australia and why?

DIPLOMATIC LINK SCHOLARSHIP

The United States Studies Centre ranks amongst the upper echelon of international institutions in the world. As a market leader, and as a facilitator of two-way links across the Pacific, we have implemented a new scholarship that reflects our position as the world’s premiere institution for the study of United States / Asia-Pacific relations, and American Business, Culture and Politics.

The United States Studies Centre will be offering scholarships to all international applicants who are residing in Australia and fall into one or more of the following categories:

• Diplomatic Visa (subclass 995)
• Dependents (spouse, de-facto partner, unmarried children up to 21 years of age, and unmarried children between the ages of 21 and 25) of a holder of a Diplomatic Visa (subclass 995)

For the following programs:

  • Master of US Studies:
    • $7,500 p.a.
  • Graduate Certificate in US Studies:
    • $3,750 – one-off payment
  • Graduate Diploma in US Studies:
    • $7,500 – one-off payment
  • Master of Arts (Research) (United States Studies Centre only):
    • $7,500 p.a.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The Diplomatic Link Scholarship will be paid to full-time recipients on the following dates:

  • Master of US Studies
    • One week after Semester 2 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 30 credit points in USSC coded units for year duration.)
    • One week after Semester 1 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 30 credit points in USSC coded units for Semester 2 and Semester 1 of the previous year.) (Mid-year entry students only.)
  • Graduate Certificate in US Studies
    • One week after Semester 1 or Semester 2 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 24 credit points in USSC coded units.)
  • Graduate Diploma in US Studies
    • One week after Semester 2 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 36 credit points in USSC coded units.
    • One week after Semester 1 census date (upon proof of enrolment in 36 credit points in USSC coded units for Semester 2 and Semester 1 of the previous year.) (Mid-year entry students only.)
  • Master of Arts (Research)
    • One week after Relevant Census Date for Research Period. For example, Research Period 4 scholarship recipients will receive payment on 31st October.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Have submitted a current application for one of the above programs at the University of Sydney for 2017 intake (Semester 1 or 2)
  • Have applied as an international student
  • For the Master of US Studies, students must complete a minimum of 60 credit points in USSC coded units.
  • For the Graduate Diploma in US Studies, students must complete a minimum of 36 credit points in USSC coded units.
  • For the Graduate Certificate in US Studies, students must complete a minimum of 24 credit points in USSC coded units.
  • Students must meet the criteria above as either a holder of, or dependent of a Diplomatic Visa holder.
  • Students must complete, in its entirety, the program that they have enrolled in, and received scholarship funding for. Failure to complete the program will result in a rescindment of the next Semester’s funds, and all future funds, if payment has been received, and exit is after the Census Date.
  • Failure to complete the program will result in a voiding of the current Semester’s funds, and all future funds if before the relevant Census Date, or if program fees are still outstanding.
  • Transfer to an external coursework program will result in a voiding of the relevant Semester’s funding, and all future funding.
  • Transfer to a shortened program (for example, the Master of US Studies to the Graduate Diploma in US Studies) will result in the appropriate price reduction listed above.

INTERNATIONAL LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP

New scholarship for international students! This prestigious scholarship will support the completion of the Master of United States Studies at the University of Sydney’s US Studies Centre — Australia’s leading resource for the analysis of American politics, foreign policy, economics, culture and history.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The scholarship will be offered to students who not only display academic merit, but also leadership and initiative in their fields of study and/or work. In addition to the bursary, successful applicants will be honoured at an annual award ceremony hosted by our Chief Executive Officer and Academic Director.

Successful applicants will receive the following:

ELIGIBILITY

  • Have submitted an application for, or already enrolled in, the Master of US Studies at the University of Sydney to commence studies in Semester 1 or 2, 2017. Apply Here

  • Students must complete the full 96 credit point degree (two years fulltime), with a minimum of 60 credit points in USSC coded units.
