The US Studies Centre held a cocktail reception to celebrate the launch of American Review, a journal of analysis and commentary on United States politics, business and society. The reception was held at the recently refurbished offices of the US Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.

The US Studies Centre Council of Advisors met to discuss the Centre's strategic plan. Prior to the meeting, the members of the Council met the Centre's inaugral cohort of postdoctoral fellows who will be working on US-related research projects for the next year.

More than 100 guests were invited for breakfast at Sydney's MLC Centre to watch Barack Obama's inauguration speech. The event was co-sponsored by the US Studies Centre, American Australian Association and the Consulate General of the United States, Sydney. Following the screening of the Presidential Oath and Inaugural Speech, the CEO of the US Studies Centre, Professor Geoffrey Garrett, provided analysis of Obama's speech.
