Professor Russell Trood
Adjunct Professor, Defence and Security Program
Dr Russell Trood leads the US Studies Centre's Defence and Security program. He was previously a Liberal Senator for Queensland from July 2005 until June 2011. During this time he filled a number of roles including the Chair of the Senate Standing References Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, Deputy Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, and a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade..
Prior to his election Trood was an Associate Professor of International Relations at Griffith University and a Visiting Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy.
Trood trained in law at the University of Sydney, has a Masters degree in strategic studies from the University of Wales and a PhD in international relations from Dalhousie University, Canada.
