Garnaut Climate Change Review
Professor Ross Garnaut was a speaker at the US Studies Centre's 2009 National Summit.
Professor Garnaut is both a Professorial Fellow (Faculty of Economics and Commerce) and a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne. In addition, Professor Garnaut is a Distinguished Professor of the Australian National University and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences of Australia. He is the only Australian to be appointed as an Honorary Professor of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
For more than three decades, Professor Garnaut has frequently been consulted on economic and foreign policy at the ministerial, including Prime Ministerial, level in Australia and several other Asia Pacific countries, as well as holding the post of Australian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China (1985-1988). Professor Garnaut presented the Garnaut Climate Change Review to the Australian Prime Minister in September 2008. This review, commissioned by the Australian government, examines the impact of climate change on the Australian economy and provides potential medium to long-term policies to ameliorate these.
He is currently Chairman of a number of international companies and research organisations, including the International Food Policy Research Institute, and board member of several others. Professor Garnaut is the author of over 35 books and numerous influential articles in scholarly journals on international economics, public finance and economic development, particularly relating to East Asia and the Southwest Pacific.
