Martine Letts

Deputy Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy and former Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Red Cross


Martine Letts was a speaker at the US Studies Centre National Summit in June 2011.

Letts became Deputy Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy in 2005 following four years as the Secretary General of the Australian Red Cross. She served as Australian Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, and Deputy Head of Mission and Deputy Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

Letts was an adviser to then Foreign Minister Gareth Evans from 1992 to 1994 and specialised in arms control and disarmament. She was appointed to the Australian National University Council in 2004 and was a member of the Advisory Board of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament, a joint initiative of the Australian and Japanese governments.
