
The Honourable Julie Bishop
Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade
Julie Bishop was a speaker at the US Studies Centre National Summit in June 2011.
Bishop is the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. From 2006 to 2007 she was Minister for Education, Science and Training and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women's Issues in the Howard Government. Bishop was first elected to the House of Representatives for Curtin, Western Australia in 1998.
In 1978 Bishop obtained a law degree from Adelaide University and began work in private practice, becoming a partner of an Adelaide law firm at the age of 26. From 1983 to 1998 Bishop worked as a lawyer in Perth specialising in commercial litigation. In 1994 she was elected Managing Partner of the Perth office of Clayton Utz.
