Professor Jonathan Pollack

Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Studies Group, US Naval War College


The future of relations between the United States and North Asia was the topic of a dialogue between Professors Jonathan Pollack and Geoff Garrett at a CEO luncheon in August 2008. The US Leadership Forum luncheon was presented by the US Studies Centre and AMP Limited.

Pollack is Professor of Asian and Pacific Studies and Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Studies Group at the US Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. Between 2000 and 2004 he also served as Chairman of the College's Strategic Research Department. His principal research interests include Chinese national security strategy; US-China relations; US foreign policy and defence strategy in Asia and the Pacific; Asian international politics; Korean politics and foreign policy; nuclear weapons and international security; and East Asian technological and military development.

Professor Pollack is researching "Identity, Power, and Risk: Rethinking Korean Nuclearization," under a grant from the John T. and Catherine D. MacArthur Foundation. He is also involved in several major ongoing projects, one on US foreign policy options in the next presidential administration and another on re-envisioning the role of nuclear weapons in global security.
