
Dr Jamie Pittock
Research Associate, Climate-Energy-Water Nexus project
Dr Jamie Pittock has a background in zoology and geography, and from 1989-2001 he worked for various non-government environmental organisations in Australia promoting nature conservation. In particular, he led WWF advocacy for new Australian environmental laws, which were enacted in 1999.
Jamie was Director of WWF's Global Freshwater Programme from 2001 to 2007, promoting establishment and management of freshwater protected areas, sustainable river basin management (focussing on 35 river basins), and sustainable use of water by agriculture and industry globally. He represented WWF in a range of international institutions, such as the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
From 2007 to 2010 Jamie was a WWF Research Associate, undertaking PhD research on freshwater ecosystems and climate change at the Fenner School of Environment & Society at the Australian National University.
In 2010 Jamie took up two positions: as Program Leader on Australia and United States Climate, Energy and Water for the US Studies Centre, and also as Director of International Programs for the UNESCO Chair in Water Economics and Transboundary Water Governance at the ANU Crawford School of Economics and Government.
