
Professor Iain Young
Head, School of Environmental & Rural Science at the University of New England, Armidale
Iain was a speaker at the Soil Carbon Sequestration Summit co-hosted by the US Studies Centre and the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Sydney in February 2011.
Iain is currently the Head of the School of Environmental & Rural Science at the University of New England, Armidale and Vice President of the Deans of Agriculture in Australia. Prior to coming to Australia, Iain was co-Director of the Scottish Informatics Mathematics Biology and Statistics Centre, and also the Theme leader for Terrestrial Carbon Dynamics in SAGES (Scottish Alliance of Geosciences, Environment and Society) which co-ordinated environmental research across Scottish universities.
Iain is a member of the Peer Review College of NERC and EPSRC Research Councils in the UK, and has recently become a member of the Federal Soils Working Group which has been established to review investment in soils RD&E in Australia. Iain's expertise lies in the biophysics of soils, specifically the interactions between the soil physical habitat and biological processes.
