In the days after their destruction much was written about the symbolism of targeting these particular buildings. French provocateur Jean Baudrillard wrote that the attacks joined "the white magic of movies and the black magic of terrorism". Although Baudrillard was criticised for trivialising the attacks, his words very effectively hit on how both Americans and non-Americans have fantasised about the destruction of America's might.
