Professor Geoffrey Garrett, Chief Executive of the US Studies Centre, discussed the geopolitical implications of the global financial crisis with emerging military leaders from Australia, Asia and the United States at the Australian Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies. CDSS is the senior professional military education institution in Australia and conducts a 12 month Defence and Strategic Studies Course for around 50 senior officers of Colonel equivalent rank from 20 different countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Garrett's presentation focused on emerging challenges for post-GFC Australian foreign policy regarding China, the US, protectionism, and global governance.

Margaret Levi and one of her PhD students at the University of Washington, Audrey Sacks, will be running a workshop in Lusaka, Zambia on March 24 for NGO workers and government officials based in Zambia. The meeting is sponsored by the World Justice Project (WJP) of the American Bar Association and has additional support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). They are presenting their research on how the provision of services by donors such as the Gates Foundation, the World Bank and the UNDP improve or undermine citizen confidence in governmental capacity and trustworthiness.
