A large audience filled the Manning Bar at the University of Sydney for a lunch time lecture by Ambassador Derek Shearer, Chevalier Professor of Diplomacy and World Affairs and Director of Global Affairs at Occidental College in Los Angeles.

Ambassador Shearer provided an insider's analysis of the upcoming US presidential election. He discussed the American public's views of the presidential and vice presidential nominees, the key issues in the race and the factors that might determine the outcome. He also explained the role of the media in the contest.

Earlier, Politics Society members and United States Studies students lunched with Ambassador Shearer at the new United States Studies Centre facilities. The students enjoyed a lively conversation about US politics with Ambassador Shearer.
