ABC journalist Leigh Sales hosted the United States Studies Centre post-election analysis on 11 November at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The panel of David Brady (Stanford University), Michael Parks (former editor of the Los Angeles Times) and Geoffrey Garrett (US Studies Centre) examined what the vote reveals about American society, the priorities and challenges for President Obama, and the implications for Australia and the world.

David Brady heads a joint project between the Brookings Institution and the Hoover Institution on Polarization in American Politics. His research focuses on the American Congress, the party system, and public policy. He was the special guest at the US Business Leadership Forum held by the United States Studies Centre.
Election Day Spectacular

It was standing room only inside the Manning Bar at the University of Sydney to watch CNN's live coverage of the election returns on the big screen. Amidst a sea of balloons more than 1500 students, election aficionados and journalists from Australia, the US and the world were there to experience Election Day Spectacular. Spectators listened to our pundits' expert commentary and some lucky punters won film passes, books and DVDs as door prizes. Many took the opportunity to have their photo taken with our very own Barack Obama and John McCain!
