On Wednesday 24 September the United States Studies Centre hosted an afternoon tea for The Australian Political Exchange Council's 25th US Delegation. Three Democrat and three Republican State Legislators met with both staff and students from the University of Sydney to discuss Australia's Higher Education System as well as Australia's views on the state of American politics.

Former Prime Minister John Howard was the guest of honour at a United States Studies Centre dinner hosted by Chairman of the Macquarie Group David Clarke in early September, 2008. The dinner was attended by members of the Centre's Board of Directors, Vice Chancellor Dr Michael Spence and other leaders from the University of Sydney, senior executives from the business community, as well as prominent politicians, military leaders and public servants who worked with Mr Howard during his tenure as Prime Minister for more than a decade.

The University of Sydney's Manning Bar was transformed into a convention hall lounge on September 5. Over 200 people gathered to experience the spectacle of the Republican National Convention. Amidst a sea of red, white and blue balloons, they watched live screenings of John McCain's presidential nomination acceptance speech on the big screen.
New Horizons: Breaking into the US market
